Overview
This is the Extensive On-Demand version of our popular EHY223 Aspen HYSYS Dynamics: Introduction to Dynamic Models class. This version is delivered through a combination of rigorous workshop modules and recorded lectures that you can complete over 3 weeks with live, expert-led sessions, hands-on workshops, and online chat forum/discussion board. Students usually spend 8 to 12 hours per week to complete this online course.
- Learn how to convert steady-state models into dynamic models to solve process design, plant operation and control problems using Aspen HYSYS Dynamics.
- Analyze and determine the best control strategy to keep the plant operation at its best using different controller models and strip charts (plots).
- Rigorously model valve characteristics and define actuator parameters to closely mimic a realistic flow behavior.
- Dynamically model compressors using performance curves and account for anti-surge controllers to overcome the problems that arise when low flow to the compressor is likely to occur due to process disturbances.
- Model distillation columns in dynamic mode and vent off excess vapor through pressure safety valves to protect the columns against overpressure scenarios.
Audience for this course
- Engineers with Aspen HYSYS experience
- Engineers with no or limited previous experience in dynamic simulation
Objective
- Instruction on basic topics through presentation
- Discussion about the general approach and the key elements for successful dynamic simulations
- Instructor-guided demonstrations of features
- Hands-on workshops
- Detailed course notes
Prerequisites for this course
- Familiarity with Aspen HYSYS steady-state modeling concepts and Aspen Simulation Workbook
- Or previously attended EHY101 Introduction to Process Modeling using Aspen HYSYS and EHY121 Building MS Excel User Interfaces for Aspen HYSYS Simulations Using Aspen Simulation Workbook
Outcomes
- Explore Dynamic models to introduce various real-life disturbances to a simulation and discover how different control strategies can mitigate these disturbances
- Define dynamic specifications, create strip charts and configure various controllers in the process simulation
- Automate actions within a HYSYS Dynamics simulation by using the Event Scheduler and Cause & Effect Matrix tools
- Interactive sizing of distillation column using the Column Analysis tool to obtain detailed geometry for dynamic simulation
- Learn pressure flow theory, column dynamics concepts, pipeline hydraulics, and basic process control theory
Outline
his Extensive On-Demand class is completed over 3 weeks.
Each week starts with short, online instruction by a live expert through a web meeting. The rest of the week is self-paced. Students exchange ideas, get help and interact with the class & instructor through an online discussion board. The online discussion board is open throughout the class and is monitored by the instructor during fixed hours.
