Overview

This 3-day instructor-led course provides the knowledge and skills needed to configure and implement Hitachi block storage systems into OpenStack cloud services and storage infrastructure. The course introduces students to the basic concepts of architecture, technologies and terminology of OpenStack. The training also covers the main software used to configure Hitachi block storage systems: Hitachi OPS Center Administrator and Hitachi OPS API Configuration Manager REST API.

The labs include extensive practice using resource management tools and working with advanced settings available on storage systems. The labs provide students with the opportunity to work with Hitachi VSP G/F/E series storage systems, integrating them into an OpenStack environment based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system.

Objective

Acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to configure and implement Hitachi Vantara block storage systems in the infrastructure of cloud services and cloud storage OpenStack.

Prerequisites for this course

You must have basic knowledge of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system as well as Hitachi Vantara block storage systems.

  • Explain the purpose of the Cinder block storage service
  • Define and describe software products offered with Hitachi VSP G/F/E series storage systems
  • Use Hitachi OPS Center Administrator to configure paths between servers and storage (LUN Mapping, LUN Security)
  • Describe the purpose and key features of the Hitachi OPS API Configuration Manager REST API
  • Describe the functions and key features of the Hitachi Block Storage Driver
  • Use OpenStack functionality to create volumes
  • Create virtual machines in OpenStack
  • Perform live migration of virtual machines
  • Understand and describe the need to manage FC zones in a SAN
  • Describe the purpose of a high availability configuration in an OpenStack environment
  • Configure DM-Multipath Software on RHEL OS
  • Create snapshots in an OpenStack environment using internal storage functionality
  • Recover data from snapshots and volumes
  • Identify possible problems and fix them
